After completing my undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin (Madison; 1958-1961), I graduated from Northwestern University Medical School (B.S. 1962; M.D. 1965), where I was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, Honor Medical Society. I completed a straight surgical internship and general surgery residency at New York University-Bellevue Medical Center, followed by the completion of a plastic surgery residency at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery in New York City.

Recipient of the National Service Award, received at the Annual Meeting of the Arizona Medical Association, Tucson, Arizona, June 4, 1999

Dr. Friedland has written many articles which have been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has contributed chapters to many books. He is in the process of authoring a textbook on Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In addition, he is a frequent contributor, lecturer and participant in national and international Plastic Surgery symposia and conferences. He has visited many universities as a Traveling Professor, sponsored by national plastic surgery organizations. He has also participated in surgical trips to third world countries. It is there where he has repaired congentital problems such as cleft lips and palates and reconstructed burn scar deformities.
